NCAA College Softball

Am I the only person excited about watching college softball?

For the longest time I felt i was the only one, especially since I have never played softball before. But even though I feel that way all evidence points to the contrary. Woman’s college softball has been all over ESPN the past couple of weeks as teams prepare and compete for the chance to compete in the College Softball World Series. From what I noticed softball seems to be getting more TV time than college baseball— at the moment anyways.

I am by no stretch of the imagination a huge baseball fan (I’m just starting to really get into baseball this year), but for some reason every year around this time I‘m captivated by NCAA woman’s softball.

Even though they’re showing on the games on ESPN the results of the week-long tournament get little to no media coverage after the fact and if they get any at it’s a quick 15-20 second honorable mention.

It’s a shame to think about all the amazing performances, comebacks and shocking upsets that people are missing out on.

On another note… Why do they only play 7 innings in softball? There tends to be a lot more hitting or stellar pitching performances in softball than in baseball (college and MLB included) so what’s the point of calling the games short and enforcing eight run rule. Haven’t women come far enough that they can play the same amount of innings? Apparently not…
